How to Be a Super Groom - Tips and Jobs For the Groom During the Wedding Planning
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Breck]Michael Breck

When it comes to weddings there are two types of groom. The first type of groom is called Neanderthal groom. Although thought to be extinct, there are still pockets of Neanderthal grooms throughout the western world. This groom will hit the golf course with his primitive clubs and leave all the hard work to his bride. His primitive brain can not understand girlie things such as weddings and he therefore feels that sort of work should be left to women.

The second type of type of groom is called super groom. Super groom will go out of his way to help and support his bride as much as possible. He knows that planning the wedding will be a stressful and time-consuming process for his bride, and he wishes to lighten her workload as much as possible. As far as he is concerned, this wedding is for the lady he loves and she deserves the best.

We shall assume that as you are reading this article that you fall into the latter category but could do with a little advice on where to start. So here goes...

The First Thing You Need To Know

Neanderthal groom is actually right about one thing. When it comes to weddings, the ladies are the experts. They have talked about weddings and read about weddings, for years. So, unless you are a wedding organiser, there is no way you can be the master in this area.

The First Thing You Need To Do

So, having accepted the fact the bride and her mum are the masters of this domain, the first thing you need to do is tell your bride that you want to be involved and help. This is a simple but important statement. It tells your bride that you are the man she always knew you were and she can rely on you.

Have a Discussion

The next thing to do is to discuss with your bride what needs to be done over the next few months and what she would like you to do to help. This is also a good time to work out who is paying for what. If it is a traditional wedding, there are some tasks that the groom is expected to do - and pay for. So, that is a good place to get you started.

Legal Paperwork For Your Marriage

Assuming that you have already bought the engagement ring, then the next step is to arrange the legal paperwork for the wedding e.g. marriage notice and marriage schedule from the District Registrar's office in the UK. It is as well to do this as soon as possible and no later than six weeks before the wedding. If you are not in the UK, then check your own country's legal requirements. However, the golden rule is to do the legal stuff earlier rather than later. There is no point having a wedding if you cannot legally get married because of some red tape you missed.

The Church Or Registry Office

Traditionally, the groom pays for the Church or Registry Office and any music at the ceremony, such as an organist, choir, or string quartet. Obviously you will consult with your bride about where she wishes to get married and then you can do the preliminary investigations into availability and booking procedures.

You can then arrange for you and your bride to visit the possible venues and, if you are having a religious ceremony, arrange the meeting with the clergyman.

Hiring Or Buying Your Own Wedding Outfit

Find out from your bride how she would like you, the best man, and the ushers dressed. Tails, suits, kilts etc. Then get some quotes and arrange a fitting for yourself and the other guys.

Buttonholes For You, The Best Man, and Ushers

Yes, this is your job. Traditionally it is carnations, but ask your bride what she would like. She may want colors which fit in with her wedding color scheme.

Wedding Cars or Transport

Obviously, discuss with your bride which form of transport she would like for going to the church and then onto the reception venue e.g. limousines, horse and carriage, vintage cars etc. Then get some quotes and bring them back to the boss.

Your First Night Hotel

Unless you are getting on a jet after the wedding reception, then you and your bride are going to have to stay somewhere before going on your Honeymoon. Usually this is a lovely hotel. If it is the hotel where you are having your wedding reception, then your problem is solved. However, discuss this with her and then arrange it, if necessary.

The Honeymoon

This is easy. Ask her where she wants to go. Get the brochures from the travel agent. Ask her where she thinks you afford you take her (after all, your money will soon be her money). Take out your credit card - and make it so!

The Bride and Bridesmaids Bouquets

You have to pay for these, but it is unlikely that your bride will want you to choose the flowers. That is best left to her. Although, remember to be a gentlemen and compliment her on her choices.

Thank You Presents For The Best Man, Ushers and Bridesmaids

Consult with your bride. She will advise you what to get for the bridesmaids and may leave the Best Man and Ushers to you.

So, these are the ways a super groom can be proactively involved in wedding planning. Of course, it does not stop there. You should continue to offer support and advice to your bride on all aspects of the wedding. You may not know much about wedding cakes, wedding stationery, or flowers, but that does not stop you from be able to discuss them over a nice meal or glass of wine and complimenting her on her choices.

So, remember to smile, be proactive, be interested, lend a kindly ear, and have a strong shoulder for her to lean on.

Congratulations - you are now a super groom!
